Apparence:

The Carpenter ants workers has a size varying from 6 to 13 mm (0.24-0.5 inch) and has a colour of range from tan to black to reddish to orange to black/red combinations. the queens is approximatly 25mm (≈1 inch)  and has the same colours than the workers.

Behavior, habits and reproduction:

Carpenter ants reside both outdoor and indoors in moist, decaying or hollow wood. The forge galleries in the material to form their nests this activity produces wood shavings mixed with parts of dead ants wich provides clues to nesting location.
Carpenter ants do not eat wood, but they will feed on a variety of food people eat, particulary sweet and meats or other insects.
The queen lays 9 to 12 eggs every 6 to 12 weeks and live up to 25 years. that's why the nest can survive for a long time.
